WHAT IS CBAM?
CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) is a carbon tax introduced by the EU to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions globally. It entered into force on October 2023 Regulation (EU) 2023/956 and inspired by the principle of 'the polluters pay', targeting carbon intensive goods imported into the EU.
Our CBAM Preparation Activities
In order to support our EU partners in complying with the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, our company has taken several steps to improve emission transparency and data reliability throughout our production processes.
1- Supplier Evaluation and Selection We have reviewed our raw material supply chain and worked towards selecting suppliers who are able to provide reliable environmental and emission-related data. This enables more accurate estimation of embedded emissions associated with steel inputs.
2- Quarterly CBAM Emission Calculations During the transitional phase of CBAM, we have conducted quarterly emission calculations in line with CBAM reporting requirements. These calculations allow us to estimate embedded emissions for our exported products and provide supporting data to EU importers.
3- Electricity Consumption Monitoring To improve the accuracy of indirect emission calculations, electricity meters have been installed on our production lines. This allows us to monitor and record electricity consumption associated with different production stages.
4- External Expert Support To ensure that emission calculations are carried out accurately and transparently, we are working with an external sustainability consultant. This collaboration supports the alignment of our calculations with CBAM methodology and internationally recognized standards.
5- Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) In addition to CBAM preparation activities, we have also initiated an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) study to quantify the environmental impacts of our products. The EPD study enables product-level emission assessment and provides verified environmental data for our road safety systems.
The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism represents an important step in aligning global production with the climate policies of the European Union. As a manufacturer of steel road safety systems, our company is actively working to improve transparency regarding the embedded carbon content of our products. Through supplier engagement, improved energy monitoring, and structured emission calculations, we aim to support our EU partners in fulfilling their CBAM reporting obligations.
